  • Ensuring ecological excellence throughout the baseline survey and monitoring programs;
  • Reviewing consultant reports and ecological sections of ESIA;
  • Preparation constraints analyses, updating ecological survey reports;
  • Conducting and coordinating ecological and associated surveys;
  • Quality assurance of ecological data;
  • Auditing of third-party survey teams;
  • Generation of ecological summary reports and presentations supporting training, education and awareness;
  • Liaison with Conservation Department to ensure integration within survey interests and field activities;
  • Identification of novel and innovative techniques for baseline sampling, survey and monitoring;
  • Support research studies investigating impacts or mitigation measures (e.g. restoration, relocation);
  • Ownership and maintenance of the GIS Database for biodiversity throughout company Development areas.

  • The Ecological Specialist should have a good background in terrestrial or marine (or both) sampling, survey, surveillance and monitoring;
  • The Ecological Specialist should have good understanding of Ecosystem Function and Ecosystems Services as well as Landscape Ecology;
  • Specialist will have a good understanding of differences between core science, conservation and ESIA scientific methods;
  • A good knowledge of at least one species group (e.g. flora, mammals, corals) for the Middle East but preferably specifically to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia;
  • Keen interests should extend to any biological systems so that no one group is weighted above others;
  • As minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Marine Biology, Environmental Biology, Landscape Ecology etc. Preferably, a Master’s degree or Ph.D.;
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience across terrestrial or marine ecology with preference to baseline survey or ecological management supporting development;
  • Experience of ecology in the Middle East and preferably demonstrable experience in KSA;
  • Strong supervision, people management and enthusiastic outlook;
  • Proven record of successfully coordinating and supervising ecological survey and monitoring programs;
  • Strong technical skills across marine or terrestrial ecology including writing and critical review.
