Category Specialist


About this role

Brunel have partnered with a leading International OEM to successfully recruit and place a suitably qualified Category Specialist to support our Client’s Major Projects Portfolio.

The role is responsible for Managing the end to end Procurement lifecycle and for being a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the supplier base and global market of assigned Categories.

  • Undertake the sourcing data and spend analysis to then issue tenders and RFQ’s to the market, coordinates the analyses of the responses and drafts recommendation to award for the relevant Managers approval.
  • Implement required contractual documentation with successful suppliers utilising the Company’s standard contracts.
  • Manage the variations to Contracts or Agreements across the business.
  • Creates, issues and coordinates purchase orders in SAP.
  • Expedites delivery of Goods, Equipment, QC Documentation and Commercial Documentation such as Bank Guarantees and Insurance Certificates.
  • Manages the Milestone and Schedule payment activities of Contracts and Purchases.
  • Resolves any Invoice discrepancies.
  • Develop and report strategic targets and KPI’s for the assigned Categories in conjunction with the Procurement Manager.
  • Implement and manage Forward Purchasing Agreements for assigned categories where appropriate.
  • Optimise the supplier base where appropriate.
  • Conduct pre-qualification of new suppliers and regular reviews of existing suppliers in conjunction with QC and Internal Stakeholders.
  • Provide advice and assistance within the company in the assigned Categories when required/requested.
  • Negotiate purchase price and terms for individual orders.
  • Provide issue resolution for supplier service and quality issues.
  • Managed assigned categories within timeframe.
  • Any other tasks as identified and instructed by the line manager.


  • Tertiary qualification in commerce, engineering or other technical disciplines preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years project procurement experience with an understanding of procurement functions, planning and manufacturing processes in fabrication/manufacturing plants.
  • Experienced in the sourcing and procurement of goods & services associated with materials handling and equipment.
  • Advanced SAP skills.
